How to Treat:
  • Wash area Immediately with soap & water
  • put on rubbing alcohol or lotion/aloe
  • if near eyes/other openings or swallowed, seek immediate medical attention
  • DO NOT SCRATCH

Small Wounds

Small Cuts and Scrapes:
How do you treat them?
  • Wash wound with soap and water
  • Apply antibiotic ointment (if possible)
  • Cover with a dry, sterile dressing or an adhesive bandage (band-aid)
  • Clean and rebandage each day until the wound heals
Blisters:
Prevention:
  • Wear shoes that fit well and are broken in (well-used)
  • Change socks when they become sweaty or wet
Treatment:
  • Don’t pop it
  • Apply moleskin (cut a hole in the moleskin and attach it to the affected area such that the moleskin doesn’t touch the blister)
First Degree Burns:
What are they?
  • Skin tender and possibly red
  • Mild, superficial burn that really doesn’t affect your day!
Treatment:
  • Hold under cold water or apply a cold, wet towel until the pain is gone

Bug Bites and Stings:        Ticks:
  • Use non-latex gloves and tweezers to pull out tick
  • Don’t squeeze, twist, or jerk it
  • Wash with soap/water
        Spider Bites:
  • Treat for shock
  • Take victim to doctor

    Insect Stings
  • scrape out stinger with knife blade or side of credit card/ID
  • DO NOT SQUEEZE STINGER
  • If the victim has difficulty breathing call 911
  • use epipen for allergic reactions
Venomous Snakebites:
  • remove jewelry before swelling
  • Get victim to doctor’s care
If not possible:
  • wash wound
  • if coral snake, wrap bite in elastic roller bandage
  • have victim lie down with bitten limb lower than body
  • Treat for shock
